The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) appears to have fast-tracked development works, as five projects worth Rs 55 lakh were launched on a single day in one ward of Vasco alone.
Ward 16 councillor Rochana Borkar launched the works for the reconstruction of drains and footpaths different areas of Belabai, Uddi, Orulem and Driver Hill in her ward, at an estimated cost of Rs 55 lakh.
The works were launched in the presence of MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaounkar, MMC Councillors Krishna Daji Salkar, Leo Rodrigues and locals of the area.
The launching of the five development works on Saturday are in addition to around three projects launched in the ward just a few weeks ago.
Ward councillor Rochana Borkar thanked Urban Development Minister Milind Naik for sanctioning the projects and said the works on the gutters and pavers were pending since the last many years.
“Though many proposals were put up, they could not be taken up as I was in the opposition. The works on gutters and pavers on footpath were assured to residents for the past 30 years and today, the long-pending demand of the people has finally been met,” said Borkar.
MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar said works of around Rs 1 crore would soon be taken up in the ward. “Many more development works are in the pipeline and will commence soon in this ward. We have been fortunate that the urban development minister has given us a lot of funds for development works.”
